Traditional Folk Lit- Jack and the Beanstalk
The book, Jack and the Beanstalk by Steven Kellog, is based on the classic English fairy tale by Joeseph Jacobs in 1889. This version has been adapted for a contemporary picture-book audience. It keeps many of the phrases and language, such as peltered, to honor the original tale. It tells the story of a smart, clever boy full of courage and silliness. The pictures are descriptive and imaginative. I would use this book in my classroom for read aloud because it is entertaining and will capture every students' attention.
